Should someone that defines him/herself as an anarchist vote ?

This is a question that I’m asking to myself and to whoever get to this website.

As an anarchist, should you refuse to vote and therefore loose the only control you could have over the government, but in the meantime make a statement by demonstrating your oposition to the system ? I’m not sure that you would call that civil desobediance, but you get the point, right ?

Or should you vote and try to find a candidate that fits with your beliefes, or, in the end, the “lesser of the two evils” ? For instance if I could vote in the USA today, I would vote for Obama… but then again I seriously doubt the democratic system, so would that make sense to vote ?

I honestly don’t know since I’ve heard from people believing either one or the other and I can’t make up my mind about it. Good that I still have time since I don’t define myself as an anarchist and I have a few years ahead of me since getting to vote again.

I think you should always vote - voting, or making your opinion heard is not anti-Anarchism, as all decisions made in an Anarchist collective, tribe, or world is done so on some form of voting. That said, we do not live in anarchist societies, and so to not take a stand, by voting, by getting politically active we will be forever without a voice. No matter the current situation, you still have to take part in it.

However, you should vote your conscience. You should let your Anarchist leanings guide you in the choices you make. If that means choosing to write in “None of the Above” then do it. If it means voting for a candidate you feel will help the country get on the right track, then do it.

You are free to speak your mind, and you are free to choose how you will go about your life.

After a bit of reflexion, I agree with you on that one. I was really happy that Obama won, because I do think that the US will do better if he’s the president… even if I also think that the US would do better without a president !

The writer of becomingananarchist.com has written a superior article. I got your point and there is nothing to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not disagree with: We all believe the Truth we perceive, but we only perceive the Truth we believe. I will be back.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
